Blown-in insulation is also referred to as "blow-in" or "blown" insulation. It doesn't really matter which term you use. Some gas water heaters are calibrated to burn natural gas, while others are set up to burn propane, also commonly known as LPG or LP gas. A tank-type gas water heater is essentially a storage tank with a central flue that also serves as a heat exchanger (see drawing). 60-gallon and 80-gallon water heaters and two of the most common sizes for homes equipped with tank-type water heaters.Like other tank-type water heaters, a gas-fired, tank-type water heater contains a number of critical components: temperature control, sacrificial anode, relief valve, cold & hot water supply lines, drain valve and tank insulation.Tankless water heaters can also utilize natural gas or LPG as the heating fuel. Tankless Water HeatingAlso called on-demand water heating, tankless water heating doesn't use a tank to store water. Rather, it uses a heating element–again, either gas or electric–to heat water the moment you ask for it. There's no wasted energy as unused water sits in a tank, getting heated and reheated on demand. The tankless unit will continue heating the water, as long as you need it. This means lower energy bills than a storage-tank model.Tankless water heating is not without its disadvantages. These systems cost more to install than storage-tank units, especially gas-fueled systems. Second, if you don't size the tankless water heater correctly, it won't be able to satisfy many simultaneous uses. Many homeowners combine a whole-house tankless unit with one or more remote, point-of-use units for efficient whole-house water heating.

Rigid foam insulation provides high insulating value with little thickness, but not all rigid foam performs the same. Polyiso is a closed-cell rigid insulation that can be used in a variety of applications, including cavity walls, stud walls, masonry walls and vaulted ceilings.Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is a closed-cell insulation, usually pink or blue in color, with a smooth plastic surface. The closed-cell structure of XPS foam board provides a consistent R-value of R-5 per inch regardless of density.Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is an inexpensive insulation material that meets or exceeds all required building and energy codes. EPS rigid insulation is the most versatile of the three rigid foam insulation options and can be used for insulating.

Tricky Application: It takes experience to get the feel of applying spray foam, especially two-part foams. With their different expansion rates and other qualities, they prove difficult for someone without experience to get the most of this material.
