Hello, New Yorkers! Maintaining a safe and clean water supply is paramount for both homes and businesses. One critical aspect of this often overlooked is backflow prevention. Backflow occurs when contaminated water reverses direction and flows back into the public drinking water system, posing significant health risks. This is where specialized services like James Lund Backflow Testing come into play, serving Port Jefferson Station, NY, and the surrounding New York region. They are a dedicated local business focused on ensuring the safety and compliance of your water systems through expert backflow testing and related services.
Understanding the nuances of backflow prevention is crucial in New York, where regulations are in place to protect the public water supply. Properties with irrigation systems, fire sprinklers, boilers, or certain commercial cross-connections are often mandated to have backflow prevention devices installed and regularly tested. James Lund Backflow Testing focuses on this specialized area of plumbing, providing the necessary expertise to ensure these devices are functioning correctly. While customer experiences can sometimes vary, their core mission revolves around performing these vital tests efficiently and helping clients navigate the necessary steps to maintain water safety and regulatory compliance. Their dedication to this specific, critical service makes them a key player in safeguarding public health across the New York community.
James Lund Backflow Testing is located at 2 Langley Ct, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776, USA. This location in Port Jefferson Station allows them to effectively serve clients throughout Suffolk County and the broader Long Island and New York areas. Their strategic placement enables them to respond to testing needs efficiently, which is particularly important given that backflow testing is often a mandatory annual requirement to maintain water service and avoid penalties from water authorities like the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA). Being a local entity means they are familiar with the specific regulations and procedures of New York's water districts and health departments, which can vary across different municipalities. For local users, this translates to a service provider who understands the regional context, can navigate administrative requirements, and is readily accessible for scheduled appointments. Their focus on a specific, critical service allows them to optimize their operations for the local area's needs.
James Lund Backflow Testing specializes in a crucial aspect of plumbing: ensuring the integrity of your potable water supply. While their primary focus is specific, it is a highly essential service, often mandated by local water authorities.
- Backflow Prevention Device Testing: This is their core service. They conduct annual tests of backflow prevention assemblies (like RPZ and DCV devices) to ensure they are functioning correctly and preventing contaminated water from flowing back into the public water supply. These tests typically involve using specialized gauges to measure pressure changes and verify the device's operational integrity.
- SCWA (Suffolk County Water Authority) Compliance: They assist clients in meeting the specific requirements set forth by the SCWA for backflow prevention. This often includes electronically submitting test reports to designated platforms like VEPO CrossConnex, which is a common requirement for certified testers in New York.
- Coordination with Water Authorities: As evidenced by a customer review, they can communicate directly with water authorities (like SCWA) in situations where water service has been impacted due to forgotten tests, helping to facilitate the restoration of service.
- Certification and Reporting: They provide certified testing services, which means their technicians are licensed to perform these tests in New York State. They are responsible for completing and submitting the required test forms (like the DOH-1013 or NYC DEP Gen-215B forms) to the property owner, water supplier, and local health department within stipulated timeframes (e.g., 30 days).
- Emergency Assistance (related to backflow test non-compliance): While not a general plumbing emergency service, their ability to "help in a pinch" when water has been shut off due to missed backflow tests highlights a reactive support service for compliance issues.
It's important to note that their specialization in backflow testing suggests that general plumbing repairs (like leaky faucets, drain cleaning, or water heater services) may not be their primary offerings, focusing instead on this critical niche.
Based on the provided customer reviews, here are some highlights and considerations for James Lund Backflow Testing:
- Technical Efficiency: Customers have praised the technicians for being "quick and efficient" in performing their job. This indicates a high level of technical proficiency in conducting backflow tests.
- Responsiveness in Specific Situations: In cases where water service has been interrupted due to missed backflow tests, the office staff has demonstrated the ability to act "in a pinch," reaching out to water authorities to expedite service restoration. This suggests a valuable understanding of the compliance process and a willingness to assist clients facing immediate issues.
- Direct Communication with Water Authorities: Their capability to contact SCWA directly to confirm appointments and facilitate water reconnection is a significant highlight, reducing the burden on the homeowner during stressful times.
- Specialized Expertise: Their primary focus on backflow testing means they likely possess deep expertise and stay current with all relevant regulations and technologies in this specific field, which is vital for compliance.
- Customer Service Variability: It is crucial to acknowledge the mixed feedback regarding customer service. While one review highlights fantastic office assistance in an urgent situation, another explicitly describes an "absolutely terrible" and "incredibly rude" phone interaction, including being hung up on. This suggests that while their technical service might be strong, the initial customer interaction experience can be inconsistent. Potential customers should be aware of this variance.
- Compliance Focus: Their service is inherently tied to regulatory compliance, which is a highlight for properties required to undergo annual backflow testing to avoid fines or water disconnection.

James Lund Backflow Testing Reviews
Fantastic service! The office helped me in a pinch when SCWA shut the water off because we forgot to have the backflow test done (covid times). The office was able to reach out to SCWA and let them know we made an appointment and get SCWA put the water back on. On the scheduled appointment day the technician arrived, did his job quickly and efficiently. Lund is awesome!
Nov 08, 2021 · 3rd GenerationAbsolutely terrible customer service. Just tried to schedule services but the person who answered the phone was not only incredibly rude but also hung up and refused to answer when I call back. I hope this isn't how the owner operates and runs their business cause this is atrocious.
